So I've been owning that car (once the darling of Jalopnik until the Fiesta ST came out) for over a year now, and for over 20k KM's ( I guess around 14k miles for you retards).
Despite what Brian Silvestro thinks, I don't like to waste my time too much (so no I'm not using multiples accounts to talk to myself) so I'm just asking if there's any interest for a long term review of the Focus ST.
I'm willing to spend my valuable time to write a piece about it in English, even if I'm predominantly a French speaking person, but only if I feel that you guys want to hear about it. I'm only proposing this because I know a lot of folks around these parts are either owning one, or looking to buy one.
Let me know if there's any interest, and if so, I'll try to get something done by the end of the week.
On these kind words of wisdom, have a good night.

I'm always down for an Oppo review. Go for it!
I don't care if English isn't your first language. Your posts are more coherent than most of the ones I see on the front page.

You stupid metric person. Us Americans can convert your stupidly simple, logical system. Ha! 20k Canadian equals just under 12,500 miles. (12,427 to be exact) Multiply your kilometers times .62 and you get 12,400 miles in real miles. Close enough. Driving down the highway? Just take those stupid km/hr signs and multiply them by 6 and you are in the park. Then we know real data. Not some arbitrary figures put up to try and fool us into going too slow. :)

I was just about to comment the same exact thing. It's amazing how quickly an author can lose the interest of an audience member. That's coming from an ST owner.

Can we still have fun around here or have we become full autoblog ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for having fun. Where you crossed the line is using a word that can very easily offend someone who has a family member with an intellectual disability.
I'd love to read your review on the ST. I have one myself and have put 32,200 KM on it in the past year. Just be conscious of your potential audience. Nothing loses audience members faster than using offensive language.

'14 just passed 10k miles

it used to be a joke here on Jalopnik, long before you joined.
Calm down.
If you would have been here when Spiegel was still active, you would have lost you shit every single day.

I'm at 32k km on my FoST in a year too. I was on track for way more but luckily my driving went down a ton a couple months ago.

I was around when Spiegel was active. Don't tell me to calm down when I am offended by an offensive word. Just because it was a joke around these parts doesn't make it any less offensive to those who are affected by the word.

ok, I think I already covered that.
I got over 4k in rebates and incentives plus no interest on my st3 focus, witch was cheaper than a mid level Impreza.
I have all the bells an whistles on it, but yes, at full MSRP, there's no reasons to pick a Focus ST over a WRX, better fork the extra 1k and get the superior car the WRX is.

you sir are heavy, it's a good thing I'm not as sensitive as you about all the Canadian jokes being made here.

There's a big difference between nationality jokes and comments about someone's intellectual disability. I would have had no problem at all if you had said that I was a stupid American for using miles instead of KM.

I would be very interested in a metric take on the FoST. I have heard many good things, but nothing about reliability or long term ownership.

Can I interject a thought here? In the past, this has always been a politically incorrect, but not mean, blog. I don't see where Kate's DS meant anything disrespectful. It has always been that way. We joke and BS with each other with no disrespect meant toward each other or any of your possible kin. Please don't turn Oppo into a Huffington Post or CNN. If you are offended by that type of comment, this may not be the blog for you.

I understand that. I understand that this blog is full of joking and BSing. I'm totally cool with that. I know that KDS didn't mean to offend anyone. All I was saying was that he could have chosen a better word.

I think you are taking this to another level, and I won't go there.
I going to say I'm sorry, and I really am, but that will be the end of that conversation.
Have a good night.

spoiler : reliability hasn't been an issue, real life mpg is, though.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 23:12 |

I average about... 12.3 L/100km around town.. but I have a lead foot in my SRT-4
![]() 11/04/2014 at 23:23 |

lead foot here : I'm at twelve per 100km doing mostly city, been up to 14 at some point.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 23:24 |

I've had the opposite result in my 32,000KMs. I am averaging around 28 mpg, but reliability has been an issue.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 23:37 |

he's talking about an Srt-4 Chrysler....
What kind of reliability issues did you have ?

I was thinking more how you like the car vs price for the comparison. Like how are the seats, i've heard they are not that comfortable.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 08:11 |
|
Fiesta ST, 27,000 k, avg of about 8.5l/100km. Mostly city, mostly "spirited". One frozen blower motor, drip-cowl replaced under TSB. two total crashes of SYNC, none since latest software update.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 08:43 |

The seats takes about a month to get used to them, or as people say "break them"
After that, they are the most comfortable seats ever. Disclaimer, I'm an average-sized guy.
I'll cover that in the upcoming review

I'd definitely like to see a long term review. Also, the level of butthurt regarding your miles/km joke is fascinating.

I know. I was being sarcastic in reply. Lost in translation I guess.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 16:13 |

I understand. Of all expressions to get confused, sarcasm is the easiest. What we need is a symbol to end the sentence/paragraph with that indicates that it is sarcasm. Any suggestions? Or maybe there already is such a thing and I don't know about it.

That's why I had used the three dots, guess that didn't work to well.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 12:29 |

Yeah, I am wondering as well what issues your having. I was looking into a Focus before the ST came out, but I was hearing some issues with reliability....
![]() 11/06/2014 at 12:31 |
|
My gf's old sentra SER Spec-V would average (with me driving) 6 L/100km on the highway and around 11 in Toronto traffic. My SRT has never done that well. I can do just about 7 on the highway, if I take it Reallllllyyyyy easy... doesn't happen much.

The car is excellent, and I highly recommend it.
That being said, my check engine light came on around 7K miles. I had to have my fuel purge valve replaced. They also replaced the fuel nozzle between the filler cap and tank. Everything was covered under warranty.
Besides that, the only issue I had was the recall on the wiring harness.
All issues have been resolved and the car runs great now.
